Mapping the Philippine Claim: Spratlys and Pulo in Ancient Maps

The Institute for Maritime and Ocean Affairs is launching a new cartographic exhibit - Mapping the Philippine Claim: Spratlys and Pulo in Ancient Maps.  Based on the latest lectures of Justice Antonio Carpio on the South China Sea Dispute, the exhibit explores the Philippine claim to the Spratlys through ancient maps.  For details visit IMOA.

Viva Shipping Lines, Inc. v. Keppel Philippines Mining, Inc.

Citing my textbook, Credit Transactions: Notes and Cases, the Philippine Supreme Court, in Viva Shipping Lines, Inc. v. Keppel Philippines Mining, Inc., G.R. No. 177382, February 17, 2016 (Per J. Leonen, Second Division), said, inter alia:

"Clearly then, there are instances when corporate rehabilitation can no longer be achieved.  When rehabilitation will not result in a better present value  recovery  for  the  creditors, the more appropriate remedy is liquidation."

The Institute for Maritime and Ocean Affairs (IMOA) will continue to mount its cartographic exhibit on Scarborough Shoal - Historical Truths and Lies - in partnership with concerned organizations. IMOA has also launched a new project advocating that the South China Sea Dispute be a paramount 2016 Election Issue.
